Oak Mantel for Fireplace Build

This is a oak fireplace mantel I built to replace the fake rustic beam in the first picture.

As you can see in the pictures, getting the design I wanted was somewhat of an iterative process. While I knew the overall shape that I wanted, I wasn't sure about the edge details until I built sample pieces for each.

You can also see the support pieces added inside that rest on the corbels in the fireplace. I added shims to adjust to the brick, which was not perfectly level. The attachment is through screws that are hidden in the structure. The recessed bottom panel covers all attachment points and can be removed if the mantel ever needs to be taken down.

This project was also done when I was working out of a very small garage in this house. Fortunately, it was a smaller project, so it wasn't an issue.
