Oak Mantel for Fireplace

This is a oak fireplace mantel I built to replace an old fake rustic beam mantel that was not done well.

At the time, I had built a lot of mission style furniture and cabinets, so this was a new style for me. It took me a while to decide exactly what I wanted. I made several test pieces of different router bit profiles and staged them until we found what we liked.

Another challenge of this project was securely attaching it to the fireplace and building it around the brick corbels. I do not like plugging fasteners from the front, so I attached them from the inside and added a removable panel on the bottom.
